The Fragrance

by Nicholas Naioti

The Fragrance came out of a long winter of experimental arrangements from the basement of Nicholas' Missouri home. Calling to senses of wonder, nostalgia and loss, these instrumental songs embrace the complexities of aging and nuance buried in growth. Each song contains some element of randomness, including tape loops played back at different speeds to create unexpected juxtapositions and melodies created by random number generators. The album carries the listener down winding paths of melodic systems and modular entropy, invoking sentiments of warmth, longing, reverence, and occasional discord. The project sprang to life through a series of quick, unobstructed recording sessions experimenting with modular synths and tape manipulation.
